European medals announced in Rome

Less than a month left until the start of European Athletics Championships in Romethe organization revealed the medals that the athletes who reach the podium will win.

The metal has a diameter of 85 millimeters and shows the image of the iconic Roman coliseum on its left side, the official logo of the championship in the center and an athletics track around it.




The presentation event took place this Wednesday at the renovated athletics track of Olympic Stadiumwhere the Championship will be held from June 7 to 12.

The president of European Athletics, Dobromir Karamarinovwill be present at the event with his counterpart from the Italian Athletics Federation, Stephen Mei.

“Organizing the European Championship in an Olympic year is a big challenge. I thank President Stefano Mei for his great commitment. I am sure that Rome 2024 will be an exceptional edition in a beautiful city and in a historic stadium ,” said Karamarinov.

Mei, for her part, highlighted the recent achievements of Italian athletes and announced that more than 100 athletes will represent the host nation at Rome 2024.

“We will be here with more than 100 athletes, everyone deserves this opportunity. I am proud of this national team, of our Olympic champions and of the many younger athletes who strive to emulate their most successful teammates,” he said.

The mayor of the city, Roberto Gualtieri, is also part of the action and beauty of the half marathon course. “The combination of sport and major events is an extraordinary driving force for the city,” he said. “I believe that the half marathon course is the best course in the world for athletes that will make us fall in love with this extraordinary sport again.”

This is the third time that Italy has held the European Athletics Championship, after the first edition in 1934 (Turin) and the eleventh in 1974 (Rome).
