The Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas English was effectively stopped this Monday Cameron Norrie in the third round of the Rome Masters 1,000, which he defeated in two sets, 6-2 and 7-6 (1), to seal his ticket to the round of 16 of the tournament.
After a fierce battle against the German Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round, a fight in which he showed his most aggressive image, angry with the referee, his coach and himself for the level, something he paid for on several occasions with his racquet, Tsitsipas responded with a fragrant victory after a great match that ended in just over an hour and a half.
His first set was particularly good, where he didn’t give Norrie any options, which he broke twice to make it 5-1 and put his ticket on track for the round of 16.
He had to suffer a bit in the second to seal it definitively as Norrie responded with the ‘break’ in another, something that inevitably led the set to a tiebreaker, where there was no flush. 7-1 removed any kind of doubt.
In the round of 16 they will face the Australian Alex De Minaur, number 11 in the world, who defeated Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, number 20, this Monday.
