30 degrees and sun can end in standing cars. Manfred Baumgartner and his fire brigade colleagues have saved life from a toddler in Oberndorf (Salzburg). Because things had to go fast, they touched the window of the window. The Floriani advises: “Do not place a car key in your handbag.”
“Shortly after the hottest phase of the day, around 4 p.m., we were warned by pager and SMS that a child is being caught in a car,” says Brand inspector Manfred Baumgartner of the Oberndorf Volunteer Fire Brigade. Even the next day he still remembers the life -threatening situation: “The sun burned on the car roof.”
So the older one served at the time and moved his workplace in the municipality to the fire station on Wednesday. Together with 14 colleagues and two vehicles, he hurried to the small child, who, according to the police, is 14 months old.
“Prepare us as well as possible”
“We never know exactly what is behind an alarm and prepare ourselves in the best possible way,” said the 27-year-old. He drove ahead with the command vehicle, a tank butcher was followed.
“When we arrive, we noticed that the toddler – I appreciate it for two years – screams, screams and sweat,” says Baumgartner in an interview with the “Krone”. So it had to go quickly and the left disc was hit – a premiere for the Floriani: “The fact that someone accidentally stores a child in a car happens to us once or twice a year. That we have to take a slice because it has never been so hasty.”
As soon as the doors were open, the Floriani gave the toddler directly into the arms of the mother involved. It was not injured in the incident and the rescue on the spot could quickly leave.
“Always wear the car key on your body”
But how can you prevent? “I always recommend not wearing car keys in a handbag, but on the body,” says Baumgartner. A second car key is also handy that you stay at home – if something happens in the area.
And for emergency situations, “jumping grains” have been called. “These almost look like ballpoint pen, can destroy windows and often even even integrated belt cutters – very useful if, for example, you get an accident as the first aid.”
