The Dutch girl from SD Worx Demi Vollering the predictions came true and the winner was announced this Sunday Cycling tour of Burgos for women 2024after winning the final stage with clear superiority.
The Dutchwoman beat compatriot Lucinda Brand (Lidl Trek), who finished second, before reaching the Alto de Rozavientos to add to her second straight Vuelta a Burgos, while Evita Muzic (FDJ), third, and Karlijn also occupied the known positions (UAE ), fourth of the day.
The stage started with many attacks from runners trying to build a breakaway. First was Valentina Basilico (Eneicat), but she only lasted 6 kilometers alone. Then Ana Vitoria Magalhaes (Be Pink), also unsuccessful.
There was great nervousness and just five kilometers later, Linda Zaneti (Human Powered) and Irene Cagnazzo (BePink) tried it and then Eyeru Gebru (Komugi) and Selene Colombi (Be Pink).
The subsequent escape of 30 runners seemed to open up a gap, with up to a 30-second difference, but the peloton reacted and by the time it reached Hortezuelos the race had regrouped.
In Alto de Arroyo, in the third category, Lorena Wiebes passed in first place followed by Claire Steels (Movistar), Tereza Neumanová (UAE Team) and Quinty Ton (Liv Alula).
Magalhaes tried again on the descent itself, riding alone for 18 kilometers when Lucinda Brand (Trek) joined her, but with 20 kilometers to go, the Dutchwoman was left to tackle the climb to the Alto de Rozavientos.
Although the advantage was one minute, Demi Vollering’s superiority led her to chase Brand 16 kilometers from the finish line and she was crowned alone, followed by Evita Muzic and Licinda Brand.
An attack that was enough to take the victory with a clear superiority but suffering, Lucinda Brand was second, 50 seconds away, and Evita Muzic was third, 1:15 apart.
