Strawberry Moon seemed beautifully over Austria

Date:

The Strawberry Moon has been admired in Austria for days. His reddish color has a very specific reason and goes back to history. This year a special event also provided the intensive red color.

Every full moon in June – regardless of the red color – is called the Strawberry Moon. The name Rosenmond or Honey Moon is rarely used. American indigenous population, who were not based on calendars with regard to the course of the year, but on the moon phases, formed the term strawberry moon. The reason for this is explained quickly, because it was always the season where the strawberries were ripe and could be harvested.

How strongly the red or orange color shines depends on how deep the moon is above the horizon – the long light path through the atmosphere fades completely and the light seems reddish.

Smoking particles looked like photo filters
This year the Strawberry Moon shone particularly red in the night of 11 June. The reason for this was the Canadian forest fires. Ashes that blew to Europe provided the intensive red color. The small smoke particles in the atmosphere look like a photo filter for the white -yellow moon.

Despite its sweet name, the strawberry moon does not bring it alone. Just like with other nights of full moon, many complain about insomnia, unrest or strange dreams.
