German Koepfer ended Javier Barranco’s Lyon dream

Date:

The German Dominic Koepfer (n.67 ATP) ended the Spaniard’s streak Javier Barranco (n.254) in the contest Lyonby defeating him in the first round of the ATP250 on clay, for 6-4, 6-7 (4) and 6-4, in just two and a half hours.

Javier Barranco, 25 years old and who, despite not having access to the previous stage, was placed in the main draw of Lyon thanks to a withdrawal, sold his defeat against an older player on the circuit.

The man from Almería always stayed in the match, made things as difficult as possible for the German and only gave away his service on three occasions (one in each set). Of course, he only knows how to ‘steal’ his rival at one time (second round).

So, the first set went Koepfer’s way with a break in the seventh game; the second from Javier Barranco in ‘sudden death’, after overcoming two match points in the ninth game; and the decisive third for the German in the loss of the Andalusian’s serve in the tenth game.

Koepfer will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert (no. 17 ATP) in the second round, the tournament’s early favorite and thus, spent his turn without playing.
