As if the cyclists weren’t punished enough, now they have to face a tough and dangerous high mountain stage. Short, only 159 kilometers, with 4,200 meters of elevation gain, where the runners have to face five mountain passes.
An ideal setting for a getaway to succeed and for a good battle to be detailed from the start, with a climb of two kilometers in Sella Pass (2nd, 2,244 meters, 8.9 km climb at 7.4% average slope and ramps rising up to 11%).
The route is constantly up and down and the first of the two biggest difficulties of the day will be faced by the cyclists at kilometer 46, when they start to climb the Pass Rolle (1st, 1,972 meters, 19.8 km climb with ramps ranging from 4.8% to 10%). Coronado, the descent is dizzying Gobbera Pass (3rd), to ascend again the first step to Brocon Pass on the north side.
You pass the finish area and a wide and fast descent to Castello Ticino and Pieve Ticino, where the steep final climb to Brocon Pass: 11.8 kilometers, with an average slope of 6.6% and ramps of up to 13%.
An ideal scenario for a breakaway to succeed again, where we have to see how the cyclists regained their strength after yesterday’s cold and where we have to see what plan the leader has drawn on the race road map , The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar.
