The Catalan Motorcycle Federation (FCM), led by Salvador “Tato” Prat, presented this Wednesday at the presentation of the MotoGP GP of Catalonia the dissatisfaction against the policy of those responsible for the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit by not participating in this event or none of those held this weekend, including the Catalunya GP, a problem that has been going on since last November.
This is the statement sent to the media on Tuesday evening:
“The Board of Directors of the Catalan Motorcycle Federation has unanimously decided not to participate in any of the events related to the celebration of the 2024 MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia. This decision was taken as a sign of protest against the Circuit’s management policy de MotoGP. Barcelona Catalunya, which does not allow us to make the most important public motor facility in the country available to our members for one weekend this season.”
“Despite good relations with the Circuit managers, the Federation has only found insurmountable reefs that make it impossible to hold the 2024 Catalan Velocitat Championship on the reference circuit of our country.”
“Given this situation that we consider unfair to FCM and all our associates, we request deep reflection from the Government and the Circuit managers to reconsider the flexibility of the conditions of use of the circuit that will allow us to recover the most special and emblematic race of the season Due to these grievances, FCM wishes to show their discomfort by not attending any event in celebration of the 2024 MotoGP Catalunya Grand Prix.
Although it did not issue a statement, the discomfort was common in the Catalan Automobilism Federation, which expressed solidarity with its colleagues because of the same problem.
This Wednesday the CEO of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Oriol Sagreraaddressed the issue insisting that the desire of the managers “to cooperate with all the Federations and promote motorsport; In fact, this is one of the priorities that the Circuit must have, without forgetting the fact that we are a company which must consider the management of the business, and therefore, the results it receives.”
“And from this double perspective we have to try to reconcile the interests of promoting motorcycling and motorsports, with the need to manage a company that has to ensure the good economic results of the Circuit. Remember all of you that it receives public financing and we must ensure that this public contribution is as small as possible, managing the company with efficiency, rigor and professionalism, generating the highest possible business,” he insisted.
“The positioning of the Circuit has always been the same: maximum cooperation, the desire for the Federations to find space in the Circuit to develop their activities. From the logic of promoting motorsport, it is important to do this from the Circuit to cultivate this ecosystem that allows us to be leaders in the generation of new drivers that gives us a global presence. For us it is a priority. Always within these parameters and this balance will be receptive us and our hands are open,” concluded the CEO of Circuit.
