A terrible train accident occurred on the German shore of Lake Constance on Wednesday. A regional train hit a van between Überlingen-Nussdorf and Oberuhldingen, pushing the vehicle more than 300 meters in front of it before the couple came to a stop. All help came too late for the truck driver; hij stierf op de plaats van het ongeval.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, a serious collision occurred at the Untermaurach level crossing, between Überlingen-Nussdorf and Oberuhldingen, between the regional train traveling from Überlingen towards Friedrichshafen and a van parked on the unblocked level crossing.
The collision left the driver, who was alone in the van, fatally injured and thrown from the vehicle. The fire brigade found the van trapped under the wagon, because the train had pushed the vehicle more than 300 meters in front of it.
The passengers of the train and the railway employees were not physically injured in the accident. The location was directly below the monastery church of Birnau and could only be reached via a narrow farm road.
