Fortuna Dusseldorf, driven by the brilliance of the Greek Christos Tzolis who was involved in all the goals, invaded the Vonovia Ruhrstadion and got a resounding victory against Bochum (0-3) which brought them closer to the Bundesliga while the local team is aiming for relegation to the second category.
The final resolution is in the second leg, next Monday, at the Merkur Spiel Arena in Dusseldorf where Bochum must win by more than three goals to stay in the German top division. But Fortuna were far superior and managed to leave Bochum with a bigger win.
Fortuna opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour with a corner which Tzolis took to hit the near post and he finished past Philipp Hofmann to put in his own goal.
It was then tied at half-time but in the second half Daniel Thioune’s side almost sealed the contest. He scored the second in the 64th minute, with a quick move that ended with an assist from Tzolis to Felix Klaus who again beat Andreas Luthe.
The third was in the 72nd minute A foul near the area was taken by Tzolis and Luthe was stopped but Yannik Engelhardt took advantage of the rebound to send the ball into the local net for the third time.
Fortuna is closing in on a promotion directly achieved by St. Pauli and Kiel, while Bochum, second last in the Bundesliga, aims to drop from the division and join Cologne and Darmstadt. The return, on Monday at the Fortuna Dusseldorf Merkur Spiel-Arena field
