Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Andy Murray in the first round of Roland Garros, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2in the battle of the veterans and what could be the Scot’s last match on Paris clay.
The 39-year-old Swiss is better and in better condition and, like in 2020, he beat him in the first round of the French Grand Slam without letting a set go.
At 37, Murray, a finalist at Roland Garros in 2016, may have played his last match on that surface if, as he suggests, he ends his career.
Wawrinka, for his part, who won the tournament in 2015 and reached the last two years, continues his quest and will face the winner of the match between the British Cameron Norrie, seeded number 32, and the Russian Pavel Kotov, 1 56 in the world.
