The Kenyan athlete Josephine Chepkoechwho this year was second in the Seville marathon and in 2019 was second in the Barcelona marathon, received a 7-year suspension after testing positive for testosteroneas reported by the Athletics Integrity Unit.
This is the second punishment the athlete received for doping. In 2015 he was suspended for 2 years for using the Norandrosterone.
Chepkoech, 35, underwent an anti-doping test in February after finishing second in the 2024 Seville marathon in 2:22:38.
Later, in April, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reported that the athlete’s analysis revealed the presence of metabolites of testosterone, a substance prohibited under the category of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids.
In May, the Agency notified Chepkoech of the adverse analytical results and the athlete accepted the results. As a result, the broker received a 7 years suspensioneffective from May 7.
Chepkoech’s positive review joins a long list of Kenyan athletes who have also been included Jackline Wambui, Beatrice Toroitich, Salina Jebet, Rodgers Kwemoi, Rhonex Kipruto, Nicholas Mboroto, Ibrahim Mukunga, Purity Changwony and Lawrence Cherono.
