The Spanish boxer Oier Ibarretxe is just one win away from qualifying for the Paris 2024 Games by advancing to the quarterfinals at Bangkok Olympic Qualifiers (Thailand) by defeating the dane Abdallah Abou-Arab by a resounding 5-0 in the 63.5 kilo category and a unanimous decision on all scores of 30-27.
The Biscayan’s fight is flawless because he is fast, receiving his opponent with precise combinations, striking and moving throughout the ring, the Royal Spanish Boxing Federation (RFEB) highlighted in its official profiles.
The Basque’s third victory leaves him one win away from qualifying for Paris and, to do so, on Friday he will face the American Emilio García.
As in the 63.50 category, five places are awarded and not four, in case of loss they will enter a new round with the quarterfinalists who did not make it to the semifinals and with them they will play for the remaining place.
In the round of 32, Oier Ibarretxe defeated Iranian Ali Habibinezhad in a match where he knew how to set the clock and won 5-0.
The Biscayan defeated Israeli Ahmad Shtiwi in his debut by a 3-2 split decision.
For its part, the European champion Ayoub Ghadfa He debuted this Wednesday with a victory in the Pre-Olympic boxing tournament held in Bangkok, by defeating Canadian Doni George Foreman, in the over 92 kg category, to advance to the round of 16.
The boxer of Marbella started the fight in a big way, scheduled for three rounds of three minutes each, as he activated combinations of punches that gave him points and became an invincible wall for Foreman, the Royal Spanish Boxing Federation announced in a statement.
In addition, Ayoub Ghadfa defended perfectly in the first two rounds and stopped every attack attempt by the Canadian. In the third set, and with the first two decided in favor of the Spanish representative, the threat came in the form of a handball from Foreman, although the Spaniard recovered and was able to seal his victory.
So far, with the Pre-Olympic Championship still at the end, Spain has three boxers qualified for the Paris Games: Laura Fuertes (50 kilos), who will also be the first Spaniard to become an Olympian in this sport; Emmanuel Reyes Pla (92) and José Quiles (57).
This tournament is the third and last chance to get a ticket to Paris, after the respective continental qualifiers and the first pre-Olympic tournament held in Busto Arsizio (Italy).
