Usyk vs. Fury: date set for rematch

There is now a date for the fight many boxing fans have been waiting for: the rematch for the interim heavyweight championship Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will be held on December 21, 2024 in Riyadhcapital of Saudi Arabia, as officially announced Turki AlalshikhGeneral Entertainment Authority of the aforementioned country.

Usyk defeated the Gypsy King by split decision at the Kingdom Arena on May 19 to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the 21st century, the first since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch in 1999 in Las Vegas.

After Fury handed him the first defeat of his professional career, boxing fans now want revenge. And they don’t have to wait long to see it. It became an open secret that the two boxers had signed an agreement for two fights to take place. And finally, it was confirmed with the announcement of a rematch for the next December 21. Initially, the second fight was supposed to take place in mid-October, but was finally delayed until the end of the year.

“The rematch between undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk and champion Tyson Fury is now scheduled for December 21, 2024 Riyadh time… The world will once again see another historic fight… Our commitment to boxing fans continues… I hope you enjoy,” Alalshikh said on social network ‘X’ (Twitter).

Anger, for revenge

Fury warned after the first fight that for him he is the real winner of the fight and he will prove it in the second fight. “I think I won the fight, but I’m not going to sit here and cry and make excuses,” Fury said.

“I think he won some rounds but I won most. What can you do? We both had a good fight, the best we could do… People are sided with the country at war. But don’t mistake, I won that fight … and I will come back, we have a rematch clause,” he expressed, opposing the judges’ decision.
