Buemi’s Toyota N.8, pole for the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Date:

New Zealander’s N.8 Toyota Brendon Hartley, Swiss Sébastien Buemi and Japanese Ryo Hirakawa took pole position in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Thursday, in the final moments of the superpole.

The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed its status as a favorite for the race, which starts this Saturday at 4:00 pm, by placing its second car, the Toyota N.7, which won last year, in the front row.

On the last lap Hartley was able to complete the Circuit de la Sarthe in a best time of 3: 24.408/1000, ahead of his brother car, driven by last year’s poleman Kamui Kobayashi (3: 24.828/1000) .

The New Zealander also set the fastest time since the start of the 90th Le Mans 24 Hours at this superpole, putting together the six fastest cars from each class in the first qualifying session.

Toyota again secured its spot in the front row before the checkered flag, while the superpole was led by Alpine’s André Negrao of Brazil and Matthieu and Nicolas Lapierre of France. The latter surprised everyone by setting the reference time at twenty minutes, after a frustrating test for the French team.

Third with a time of 3 min 24 sec 850/1000, however, Alpine will start in the second row, which is a lesser evil.
