The Spanish Federation considers the classification of six fighters for Paris a “historical milestone”.

Date:

The Royal Spanish Boxing Federation (RFEB) considers the classification of six boxers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games a “historical milestone”.the highest number since the establishment of the current system, in Barcelona ’92, where the team had seven representatives due to its status as organizer.

“Over time we believe that the magnitude of what we have experienced will be assimilated. And up to six representatives of Spain will meet in Paris. If what was achieved in Tokyo, with four, is considered a milestone, now it has been exceeded, ” featured RFEB in a statement.

The six representatives who are in the French capital they are Ghadfa Drissi, who weighs more than 92 kilograms; Oier Ibarretxe, at 63.50; Rafa Lozano, at 61 -classified in the Bangkok Pre-Olympic held until this Monday-, with José Quilesat 57 kilos – who will be in Tokyo 2020 -, Emanuel Reyes Pla, at the age of 92 – who achieved his place in the previous Busto Arsizio Pre-Olympic -, and Laura Fernández, at 50 kilos – the first Spanish boxer to qualified for some Games-.

The Federation revealed that Spain is currently in the men’s box, the European team with the most qualifications -five-, higher than France or Great Britain, and the same number as Cuba, a country with a great tradition of Olympic boxing.

Enmanuel Reyes Pla and José Quiles will face their second participation. In this way, they are equal in statistics with Enrique Rodríguez Cal, Juan Francisco Rodríguez, Antonio Rubio and Kelvin de la Nieve and are only behind Rafael Lozano, who has three participations and two medals, in addition to an Olympic diploma.

Ayoub Ghadfa Drissi, in the super heavyweight category, has proven to be one of the best in the world over the past two years, with the classification honoring a process that began a day after losing his debut at the Spanish Championships (Murcia 2017) against Aymer El Koungui from Almería.

The rise of women’s Olympic boxing in Spain has been rewarded with a historic place for Laura Fuertes, who “must pave the way for future Spanish Olympians,” said the statement, adding to the emergence of the youngest in Bangkok.

We worked with them for Los Angeles 2028, in the cases of Oier Ibarretxe (21 years old) and Rafa Lozano (19), who in Thailand offered a good image and won a place that “allows the team that made history,” said the Federation.
