Tensions quickly escalated, with the city’s entire gay and lesbian community organizing in neighborhood riots that lasted three days. During this time, gay rights movements emerged and the Pride parades that are now popular in many cities, where people from the LGBTQ+ community celebrate that the world can be itself.
