Date:

The association of red and white celebrates the 50th ‘Metropolitan Experiences’, an event that will bring together historic players and fans to recall the most memorable anecdotes and experiences of the emblematic Metropolitan Stadium. The event will be held on June 13 at the Eduardo Úrculo Cultural Center (Plaza de Donoso 5, Madrid) at 7:03 pm

More than a football stadium, the Stadium Metropolitano is a true symbol of the capital and an emblematic home for Atlético de Madrid. Located at the end of Avenida de la Reina Victoria, in the famous neighborhood of Cuatro Caminos, there have been the dreams, joys and emotions of thousands of red-and-white fans for more than four decades.

Inaugurated on May 13, 1923, the Metropolitan, which received its name at the initiative of the brothers Otamendi, the stadium builders and founders of Madrid Metro, became the first grass field where the then-named Athletic Club de Madrid played at home. With an initial capacity of 25,000 spectators, this enclave soon became the benchmark for Madrid football.

Throughout its 43 years of red and white ownership, during which it was destroyed by the Civil War and changed several times, fans witnessed the first victories of the colchonero team. 515 official club matches have been played on its turf, with 1,496 goals scored. Since the beginning of Mochin Triana until late Honduran Cardona In 1966, the stadium vibrated with every victory and every team goal. His legacy now lives on in the new Metropolitan Stadium, which honors the memory of his predecessor.

The meeting will be presented by a well-known sports journalist Juan Pedro Valentine. During the event, curiosities and historical objects related to the Metropolitano will be displayed, and the history of the stadium will be examined from its inauguration in 1923 to its demolition in 2001. We will also have the participation of former players who dressed in red and white shirts at the Metropolitano, who will share their experiences and anecdotes with the public, and fans present in those stands, who will have the opportunity to tell their own stories and experiences.
