Toni Kroos looks set to enjoy his final European Championship football experience in his country, Germany. The still Real Madrid player (his contract expires on June 30) will hang up his boots once the continental tournament is over. He left the white club with a great farewell at the Bernabéu and at the top, winning the Champions League at Wembley.
“Playing the European Championship at home is more special. I don’t think many players have experienced a great tournament at home. The country is excited and we have a big environmental responsibility to breathe. these weeks,” commented Kroos in the press conference, three days before the debut against Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
“We have to play the first game in a positive way. We know what kind of opponent we are facing, Scotland can be very uncomfortable. I spoke to my teammates in Madrid, who lost against them in Spain, so we were warned it would be very difficult,” he added.
“It is a great honor and joy to be able to play in this tournament. Of course there is pressure, but to a certain extent you have to enjoy that pressure. Just football,” commented the German midfielder, who returned to the Mannschaft for the Euro This Cup after resigning from his national team three years ago.
“Of course I am hungry to win, otherwise I would have made the decision to return. I want to win this tournament, if I can’t, I won’t be here,” he declared.
“Our job has to be to play well. We must minimize the phases in which we have problems. There are many good phases in the games and we have room for improvement. I know our potential as teams and we can beat any rival . ,” he said. .
“This team is not difficult to lead the group. I see in everyone a great desire and a great enthusiasm to win games. We have some players who have never played in a big tournament, they are special,” added he. “I think it’s always important to give them a certain level of support and a sense of security. In the end, we need enough players working together to be successful. The more players are comfortable, the better .”
