The Euro Cup is no longer seen on TV: half of young people will follow it via streaming

Date:

We don’t need to warn you, but the men’s football Euro Cup is getting dangerously close. The event in Germany is one of the sporting events of the year, along with hundreds of millions of people who want to enjoy the best football. As far as Spain is concerned, according to a recent survey conducted by DE-CIXthe world’s leading operator of internet exchange points, four out of ten Spaniards They will continue the Eurocup this summer.

This same survey suggests that of the total potential viewers of the Euro Cup, 45% are over 60 years old, while 38.5% are between 18 and 29 years old. From the last block of young followers, half will watch the Eurocup online, that is, through streaming. Linear television only captures the majority of over-34s, increasing in importance as the viewer ages.

There is also another important difference between young and old viewers and that is streaming facilitating more content sharing. This practice is in fact very common among younger fans, where one in three say they will share their favorite moments from the online channel, something impossible for the viewer who chooses to follow the Euro Cup through traditional television.

According to Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, in the same survey “online broadcasts are the future of live sport. “Those streaming can easily pause the game, jump to the highlights, and stay focused while on the go.”

In addition to this, Ivanov focused on the fact that if the digital experience is to continue to improve, it is important that we can prepare the existing network infrastructure to meet the demands of the future from the living room of our homes to the stadiums. Without further ado, a few weeks ago Google and Atlético de Madrid signed an agreement along similar lines.

Furthermore, the survey also noted that up to 70% of viewers believe they have a sufficient Internet connection to follow the championship online. however, 42% said they had occasional streaming problems, experience reductions or decreases in quality. Nowadays, there are dozens of televisions for less than 1000 euros to watch the Euro Cup like never before, so if football wants to go up a level, it makes sense to start with improve the connection of each of the viewers.
