Coutinho is now a free player

Date:

Philippe Coutinho He is now a free player to choose his next destination. As reported by the journalist Bruno Andrade, the former player of Barcelona, Espanyol and Liverpool, among other teams, reached an agreement at the age of 32 with Aston Villa to terminate the contract that bound them until June 30, 2026.

Disconnected from Aston Villa, who loaned him to Qatar’s Al Duhail in the 2023-2024 season, everything indicates that Coutinho will sign for Vasco da Gamathe club where he started his career before jumping to Inter Milan in 2010, as negotiations advanced to sign a two or three-year contract.

His departure from Barcelona

Coutinho arrived at Aston Villa in January 2022 on loan from Barça and in the summer of that year he paid 20 million euros to the Barça club to acquire its property, backed by Steven Gerard, the coach of the ‘villains’ who paired with the Brazilian as a player at Liverpool.

He then definitively ended his relationship with Barcelona, who he joined in January 2018 from Liverpool for 135 million euros. It was the most expensive signing for the Barça club, where it did not meet their expectations.

The drop at Aston Villa

At Aston Villa, after a promising end to the 2021-2022 season, his performance dropped the following season, due in part to muscle problems, and he barely managed a goal in 22 games.

It’s not part of the plans Unai Emery, who relieved Gerrard in October 2022, hence the loan to Al Duhail. When his loan ends, the Basque coach is still without him and, after terminating his contract with Aston Villa, he is close to closing, 14 years after moving to Europe, his return to Brazil.
