Terrible tragedy in the Graz district: Four children were buried by a mudslide on Wednesday while playing in a forest near St. Marein. Three were quickly rescued, but for one no help came too late; the animal could only be saved dead.
Shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, a mudslide occurred in a forest in the small town of Siegensdorf east of Graz – exactly where four children were playing at the time.
According to ORF Steiermark, 100 firefighters and two helicopters were deployed in the next rescue operation. Three children were quickly found. One of them was flown to hospital with serious injuries. A child who was only five years old could only be saved dead.
