The former player of Bayern Jerome Boateng He returned to court on Friday for a review of the high-profile case in which he was sentenced to pay a fine for ill-treatment, which was subsequently overturned last year by the Bavarian Supreme Court. The Munich Provincial Court is preparing to retry the football player for a crime of injuries and insults to his ex-partner and mother of his daughters that allegedly took place in 2018 during a vacation in the Caribbean.
According to German media, Boateng attended the hearing and, according to sources from the ‘Bild’ newspaper, he intends to testify in detail about the allegations to prove his innocence. According to the session calendar of the Munich Provincial Court, the decision may be announced on July 19.
A court in Munich sentenced him for the first time in 2021 to pay a fine worth 1.6 million euros, which for the second time was revised down to 1.2 million euros, a sentence that was later annulled by the Supreme Court of Bavaria. It upheld the appeals of the former German international, due to procedural errors, and of the prosecution and the plaintiff, and sent the case back to the Munich Provincial Court.
The alleged incident happened in 2018, while on vacation in the Caribbean, where according to Boateng’s ex-partner, he insulted, hit and bit her, even though she was lying on the ground, causing injuries to her face. Boateng admitted they had a heated argument at a luxury holiday home, but denied hitting his ex-partner.
In April 2021, Bayern Munich’s sporting director announced that Boateng’s contract would not be renewed, after which the player moved to Olympique Lyonnais and Italian club Salernitana. In May of this year he signed for Austrian LASK
