They were a couple for 35 years, but the relationship ended in April with serious injuries and massive accusations. A 78-year-old is said to have deliberately burned his partner with a hot cup of tea. Now came the trial.
How quickly love can turn into hate was recently demonstrated again at the Innsbruck Regional Court. After 35 years, the relationship of a German (78) living in Tyrol and his partner somehow ended abruptly. “I should have separated years ago, the first time he hit me,” the woman told the judge.
Intentional injury or just a fatal accident?
In early April, a scandal occurred in the multiple parents’ shared apartment. The 78-year-old is said to have deliberately burned his partner with scalding hot tea.
“Farewell gift” after 35 years of relationship
“I deeply regret what happened. I never wanted to hurt anyone. It was a nice evening,” said the previously immaculate man. He does not always have control over his hands due to an advanced nerve disease. Everything was just a fatal accident.
However, his former great love, who had suffered serious burns on his neck and all over his cleavage that evening, remembered the incident less harmoniously. “He cursed me and wanted to hit me. But I had the freshly brewed cup of tea in my hand,” the witness said in a calm voice. And then the retiree said the burns would be a “farewell gift.” “It was cynical and not intended that way,” the suspect justified himself. The woman will be left with discoloration and some scars.
Partial compensation and a fine instead of conviction
Nevertheless, the judge granted a postponement. The 78-year-old got away with a fine of 2,000 euros without being convicted and must initially pay the “ex” 1,500 euros as partial compensation.
