Charlie bounced back from a bad start by hitting a double on Eagle Trace Golf Clubbut in the end he delivered a card of 71 strokes (-1) and secured one of the four tickets at stake for the US Junior Amateur.
“I didn’t play well in my first two holes, but I played well in the other 16. I just told myself not to make more bogeys or double bogeys and took advantage of some good birdie options,” Charlie said.
His father was 14 when he qualified for his first US Junior and reached the semi-finals. A year later, at the age of 15, he won the first of his three consecutive titles, the only one he has achieved in the history of the US Junior Amateur, which is reserved for under-19s.
The US Junior Amateur will be held from July 22 to 28 in Oakland Hillsin Detroit. Charlie Woods will be one of 264 golfers who will play 36 holes to determine which 64 players will advance to the playoffs. The young Woods won various tournaments on the youth circuit, some of them with his father as caddy.
