Real Betis coach, Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, analyzed after his team’s 3-0 loss against Valencia that the match was very even until Edgar González was sent off in the 61st minute and added that the match was ended there.
“We split the game into two parts: with 11 against 11 it was very even, but after the ejection the game was over, they had total control. After the expulsion came the goal of the free kick which was very psychological and very difficult to return the score to a disadvantage and to a person lower, it changed the balance of the game”, he said in the press conference.
Pellegrini reiterated that it was very difficult for his team to face the game with one man less, one goal against and as a guest in a stadium like Mestalla.
“Both teams tried to win from the start, maybe Valencia with more control of the ball, but were equal until the sending off. Without the sending off it would have been a very balanced game and 3-0 was the product of a penalty, I don’t know if it is questionable or not, and the last goal. Valencia seems to me a team that plays and plays good football”, he concluded.
