Comfortable victory for Spain over Brazil in Pre-Olympic premiere

Date:

The Spanish rugby 7 team defeated Brazil this Friday (38-0) in its debut in the intercontinental play-off tournament which will be held until Sunday in Fontvieille (Monaco), where only the winner will get the right to participate in Paris 2024.

Spain dominated from the first play, with the call dismissed by Paco Cosculluelawhere he twice swept the field with precise handrails after stealing the center kick and opened the scoring thanks to Enrique Bolinches, unstoppable in the left corridor.

Juanchín Ramos scored the second try when counterattacking thanks to the great work of Tobías Sainz-Trápaga in the combat zones and the match was resolved before the break (26-0) with new scores from Bolinches and Pol Pla, who took advantage of a stolen. Spanish forward scrum.

The second half, with Paco Hernández drinking his starters, was more uneven and the ‘Lions’ increased their advantage with a try by Eduardo López near the left flag and another by Jeremy Trevithick, which ended a long back-and-forth action in an eighty meter race.

Due to the disqualification of Papua New Guinea, Spain will play just two games in the group stage, which closes on Saturday (3:28 pm) against Hong Kong in a rivalry that doesn’t matter much, because whoever wins, and barring a strange combination of results, the former British colony will be their rivals in Sunday’s quarterfinals.
