3-0: Ireland cheer at the expense of Scotland

Date:

Ireland beat Scotland on Saturday by a resounding 3-0, in a game they already dominated 2-0 at half-time. However, the match was more even than the scoreboard shows: Scotland had more possession (53%), shot more goals (9 shots to 7 for the Irish) and took more corners ( 8-6).

The boys in green, as known to Irish national team players, put up a fight in their face in the 20th minute, when Alan Browne chased the ball inside the small area and was unforgiving. Just a few minutes later, at 28 ‘, the second will come for the locals. Troy Parrot surprised the entering defenders from the second set and put an accurate header below the goal. Despite the fact Scotland tried, in the second half already, in the 51st minute, Obafemi put up 3-0 on the scoreboard with a powerful mid-range shot that was impossible for veteran Scottish goalkeeper Craig Gordon. From here the match was lost which resulted in the final 3-0.

Ireland’s first three points in this edition of the UEFA Nations League help them climb from fourth to second position, although tied in points with Scotland (third with less than one game) and Armenia, who closes in group B1 led by Ukraine with 6 points.
