Evenepoel: “We must be ready for battle”

Date:

The Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step), third overall and the white jersey of the best youth in the Tour, finished the third stage “I’m glad I got there safely,” and before the first stage of the mountain he indicated that he was ready “for war.”

“It’s the first sprint stage of the Tour, so everyone knows it’s going to be hectic. The first objective was to land safely and we achieved it. And we’re also waiting to see what the result will be, and in the end, it’s the same situation with other leaders, but not with me,” Evenepoel said at the finish line.

The leader of Soudal commented that in the longest stage of the 2024 Tour he did not have to “do anything” and that for everyone it was a day of recovery after two difficult and very hot days.

“No one is really interested in rest, I think everyone has suffered a lot in the last two days, so this is the perfect way to have a long recovery period,” he said.

Ahead of this Tuesday’s stage with Galibier as the main man, Evenepoel will come out with the main goal of not wasting time.

“Tomorrow I have to stay where I am, without wasting time with Pogacar and Vingegaard, that’s the main goal. If there’s a sprint finish in a small group, of course I’ll try, but we’ll have to see what happens in the breakaway, because there’s a good chance I’ll get in tomorrow.”

Evenepoel added that he will try to “survive and achieve the best possible result” in a stage “that will also not be the most important in the Tour.”

“There may be differences, but not major ones. We have to be prepared for war and then we will see what can come of it,” he concluded.
