Alcaraz: “Nerves are good if you control them”

Date:

The Spanish Carlos Alcarazwho won Monday in her Wimbledon debut, assured that nerves “are good if you control them.”

The Murcian suffered in some parts of his fight against Mark Lajal and confirmed afterwards that he was nervous about being the first match of the tournament on center court.

“It’s hard to start the tournament, the first rounds are always difficult and you have to adapt to the conditions. He played more calmly. It was his first Grand Slam match and he played undefeated,” Alcaraz said in a press conference.

“Nerves are something I hope to go away, but I think having those nerves is good if you can control them in a good way. If you let those nerves control you, that’s when things is not very smooth. It’s something that comes naturally. And in a way it’s good. Djokovic, Federer, Rafa, they felt those nerves when they jumped into the headquarters. And if you control it, they are great nerves,” he added.

The Spaniard won the match in three sets, but admitted he has things to improve on for the rest of the tournament.

“I have been beautiful. I always want to be perfect or looking for perfection. I know that there are some things that I need to improve, that I have not been completely beautiful, but in general calculation I have been beautiful. To enter the first round, which is not easy, I found myself at a good level,” he said.

Regarding his arm, in which he wore protection throughout the clay tour, which he took upon arrival at Queen’s, the Murcian said that it was a forgotten thing and the fact that they let him play golf, as he did recently Sunday night. is a sign that all is well.

And he assured that “I was surprised by Lajal’s level, which does not match his ranking (269). If he plays at this level, we will see him higher.”
