What happened, Belgium? This is how Vertonghen scored his own goal after Maignan’s saves

Date:

That’s football two minutes after Mike Maignan became the savior of the French team on Monday in the 83rd minute by making a stellar save after a shot from Kevin de Bruyne, Vertonghen put the goal into his own goal the quarterfinals (1-0).

Belgium was unlucky, because after Kolo Muani’s shot, the ball hit the ‘red devil’ Vertonghen. In addition to the save against De Bruyne, Maignan was brilliant with another from Romelu Lukaku’s shot.

But Barcelona player Jules Koundé sent the ball to N’Golo Kanté and it to Kolo Muani, who shot with his right foot. By hitting Vertonghen, he distracted the Casteels goalkeeper. The goal, awarded by UEFA to the Belgian defender as an own goal, saw France qualify for the quarterfinals.
