The Dane Jonas Vingegaard considered it “normal” to give up some time to the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar in the fourth stage of Tour de France and hinted that this was part of his plans.
“Most of the time I lost was on the descent, on the way up I think I was quite good. Then, when the wind was stronger, I think the conditions favored it and that’s where I lost the most,” said cyclist Visma, now third overall, 50 seconds behind the Slovenian.
Vingegaard, winner of the last two editions, pointed out that the race is progressing according to his plans. The Dane arrives with preparations cut short due to a crash in Itzulia and knows his form won’t be optimal in the early stages, but hopes to regain form as the days go by.
“In the first four stages we only lost time in one and we expected to lose them all. So in that sense we will be satisfied,” said the Dane, who regretted not having more teammates to help him in the climbing the Galibier.
Despite everything, Vingegaard made sure that they kept the initial plan in this Tour de France: “We know what we have to do, but we won’t reveal it. Like the last two years, we have a plan and we will see what will happen in the end.”
