The British Mark Cavendishwhich this Wednesday became cyclist with the most stages won in the Tour de Francemaking sure the key is “being at your best at the right time.”
“I’ve been running the Tour for fifteen years, I know what to do, I know it’s no use beating your ego on the peloton.that the best thing is to spend the days as much as you can and be at your best at the right time,” said the Astana runner, who has lost control in recent days.
Cavendish achieved his 35th Tour victory, one more than Belgian Eddy Merckx, who in 49 years has the most partial victories.
“For many, winning a stage justifies a career and I’ve had so many victories. It’s something incredible”said the runner, who thanked the trust of so many people, particularly his family, who came to the Tour on Tuesday. “Just in time,” he said.
Although he noted that the stage was not the best for his conditions, he said that he knows the roads as he won another stage nearby in 2016.
Cavendish indicated he will try to win again this Thursday, another day that could end in a sprint, and said he plans to ride the Tour to the end: “I have a lot of respect for this race, for me it is the most important sporting event in the world. There are only two weeks left and I will try to give my best.”
