Vingegaard’s crack at Tour ‘sterrato’ sections: “They don’t matter, it’s an unnecessary risk”

Date:

The Danish Jonas Vingegaardwinner of the last two editions of Tour de Franceconfirmed in Sunday’s ninth episode that his goal was “not to waste time”, which is why he justified not cooperating with the getaways.

“We didn’t think of shooting on breakaways, it would be better to recover more teammates in case of an unexpected event. Our objective in this stage was not to lose time and that’s why it is better to wait,” said The Visma cyclist, who was punctured twice but entered the group of favorites.

Vingegaard Slovenian has been recognized Tadej Pogacar, head of the general classification, “better suited to this terrain” with unpaved roads and that’s why he “secluded himself for a while.”

“But I’m satisfied that I caught up with him and didn’t lose time on this dangerous day for me,” he commented.

The Dane is satisfied with the result achieved in this first week, which he faced without adequate preparation after the fall he suffered in the last Tour of the Basque Country that kept him in hospital for 33 days and a week in intensive care.

Vingegaard wasn’t too happy about the inclusion of unpaved sectors on the Tour route. “It seems to me that they have nothing to do with the Tour de France, it’s an unnecessary risk,” he said.
