Alexander Davidovich removed his countryman Albert Ramos of the tournament to the Queen 7-5 and 6-4 in the first round.
The man from Malaga, this season’s finalist in Monte Carlo, Ramos was eliminated after a difficult first set in which he lost by a 4-1 lead. After four consecutive Ramos games, Davidovich turned the tide, broke his opponent’s serve in the twelfth game and quickly entered the first set.
A break early in the second set made it easier for Davidovich, who recorded his fourth win since the final in Monte Carlo, the best result of his career, and the sixth victory of his career on grass.
The Spaniard, number 44 in the world, will face the Australian in the second round Alex de Minaur, that can be done to the American giant Reilly Opelka for a 6-4 double. This will be the fourth meeting between Davidovich and De Minaur, with a 2-1 advantage for the Spaniard, who won the last duel in the first round of Monte Carlo last year.
