Lawrence CheronoBoston and Chicago marathon winner, was punished with a seven-year suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit for the use of prohibited substances, as well as for manipulation or attempted manipulation of anti-doping control.
The Kenyan athlete, as explained by the Integrity Unit in the ruling, tested positive for trimetazidine in the out-of-competition anti-doping control he underwent in May 2022.
An offense for which the Kenyan athlete, 35 years old and finished fourth in the marathon at the Tokyo Olympic Games, was punished with a four-year suspension, to which was added another period of four years of ineligibility- must be for manipulation or attempted manipulation of anti-doping control.
The penalty was reduced by one year after the athlete recognized the violation of the anti-doping code as well as accepting its consequences, where Cherono was finally suspended for seven years starting to count from July 16, 2022, when it started his temporary suspension.
