Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi) will start third in the first IndyCar race of the weekend, this morning (2:00 am Sunday morning) at Iowa Speedway, while this Sunday afternoon (6:00 pm)on the same circuit, will start from the second position in the second race.
The two-time Indycar champion and current championship leader qualified in Saturday’s sessions behind American Colton Herta (Andretti Global) and New Zealander Scott McLaughlin (Team Penske) for tonight’s race.
Mexican Pato O’Ward (Arrow McLarend) will start sixth from the third row.
Pole position for Sunday’s race went to McLaughlin, who will share the front row with Palou, second, while O’Ward will start seventh.
At 0.875 miles (1,408 meters), Iowa Speedway is the shortest Indycar circuit.
This weekend, two races will be held with a single qualifying session, with the first lap used for Saturday’s competition and the second for Sunday.
