Red Bull’s F1 boss has put himself in Verstappen’s shoes

Date:

Christian Horner is one of the most recognizable Team Principals in the F1 paddock, the team leader who currently holds the drivers’ and constructors’ titles, the dominant team for the last three seasons. But what some don’t know is that in his beginnings he was a single-seater driver, and after an incredible story, he rose to the top as the manager of the Red Bull F1 team. And this weekend, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Horner put himself more than ever in the shoes of his pupil Max Verstappen or ‘Checo’ Pérez to wear a suit, gloves and be the driver inside a day

This time, Horner dressed up as a driver to drive the car with which Sebastian Vettel won the title in 2012, the Red Bull RB8, and thus experience a magical moment.

Apparently, according to Christian Horner himself, Sebastian Vettel was supposed to go to Goodwood to drive the RB8 this weekend but ended up taking time off. Finding himself without a driver, Horner decided to take it upon himself to drive an F1 for the first time since 1993, when he tested in a Lotus.

“Sebastian Vettel was going to drive one of the cars here, but he was on holiday with his family and couldn’t make it to Goodwood, so the guys suggested I drive it. I haven’t driven a car since 1998 and a Formula 1 car since 1993. “It’s a great honor and a great privilege to drive one of these extraordinary cars, a championship-winning car,” commented Horner after getting out of the car, after putting himself in Verstappen’s shoes and acting as driver in one day.

“It’s amazing how fast these cars are and how much influence aerodynamics have. When you brake, you have a hard time keeping your chin away from your chest. “I liked it so much that I made a mistake and didn’t go into the pit lane and did an extra lap!”he added Horner.

Verstappen also drove at Goodwood:

Max Verstappencurrent F1 world champion, is also involved Goodwood piloting the Red Bull where he took the title from Hamilton in 2021 in one of the tightest and most controversial finishes in F1 history.
