Dragisa Gudelj retired from football due to heart problems

He Córdoba CF soccer player Dragisa Gudelj announced this Wednesday afternoon through his social networks that he will not continue professional football training after the various heart problems which has kept him out of the game for the past few months.

The Serbian-Dutch defender, brother of Sevilla player Nemanja Gudelj, published a video in which he reviewed his entire sports career, up to March 25, 2023, at which time collapsed on the playing field of El Arcangel stadium and was in cardiac arrest for three and a half minutes.

That was the day when “will be born again”, as he declared himself through the video, in which he acknowledges that his life and dream is “to be a professional footballer” and that led him to install an Implantable Automatic Defibrillator which allowed him to wear the Córdoba CF jersey again, this time as captain, starting the 2023-24 season again with the Andalusians.

However, on December 3, 2023, in the rivalry between Córdoba CF and Melilla, Dragisa Gudelj suffered another fall on the grass and, although this time the player did not lose consciousness, it was a clear symptom that his heart “couldn’t do it anymore”, as he explained in the video.

For all these reasons, the defender, after consulting his closest circle, friends and doctors, had difficulty decision to step aside and retire from sports training of professional football, thus abandoning his dream and illusion, but wants to leave a positive message to everyone, remembering the “beautiful and special moments”, as well as the “friendship”, that the world left him of football.
