A bizarre conflict: the Medical University of Graz takes away the teaching practice of a Styrian country doctor because he feels offended by gender-neutral language. Instead of a debate, there was the blue letter! The doctor defends himself in the ‘Krone’ conversation.
He is a popular family doctor in the small Upper Styrian community of Turnau, happily married with three daughters. Eight of his nine employees in the rural medical practice, where he has also trained medical students, are women. “As an indirectly affected person, I am well acquainted with structural gender-related injustices,” says the doctor, who does not want to be (mis)understood as a “gender opponent”.
