He Spanish sailing team is at full capacity, with its thirteen sailors – seven women and six men – and the entire coaching staff, in the French city of Marseillesheadquarters of this sport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the program begins next Sunday with the first tests in the men’s and women’s iQFOiL classes and in the 49er and 49er FX.
The Hispanic delegation took official photos this Thursday at the Marseillaise marina, whose center of operations is the Roucas-Blanc marina, led by the flag bearer Tamara EchegoyenOlympic champion in London 2012 and is competing in his fourth Games.
Echegoyen is with his 49er FX partner Paula Barceló, Diego Botín and Florian Trittelwho will compete in the 49er; Pilar Lamadrid (iQFOiL) and Nacho Baltasar (iQFOiL), which will be the first to bid on Sunday.
Besides, Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barriowho make up the crew of the Nacra 17 Mixto, Ana Moncada (ILCA 6), Joaquin Blanco (ILCA 7), Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman (470 Mixed) and Gisela Pulido (Kite Formula) are those who complete the list of Spanish sailors.
These thirteen athletes, as the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) recalled in a statement, come from six autonomous communities, such as Andalusia: Pilar Lamadrid and Ana Moncada; Balearic Islands: Paula Barceló and Nacho Baltasar; Canary Islands: Tara Pacheco, Andrés Barrio and Joaquín Blanco; Cantabria: Diego Botín; Catalonia: Jordi Xammar, Nora Brugman, Gisela Pulido and Florian Trittel; and Galicia: Támara Echegoyen.
The sailors were accompanied by a technical team that followed each of the three years of preparation, with Xisco Gil as director of Olympic preparation.
The coaches of each class are Álvaro del Arco and Hamish Wilcox, 49er; Pablo Garcia, Nacra 17; Jano Toro, ILCA 6; Gustavo Lima, ILCA 7; Juan de la Fuente, 470; José Luís Costa and Federico Alonso, 49er FX; Mateo Sanz, female iQFOiL; Marcos Fernández, iQFOiL man; and Antonio Mínguez, women’s Formula Kite.
The multidisciplinary team of RFEV is completed by Daniel Brotons (doctor), Carles Tur (health coordinator and physical trainer), Meritxell Bellatriu (psychologist), Pilar Clapers, Claudia Juan and Lucía Ruiz-Cotorro (physiotherapists); Marc Combalia (data analysis, Artificial Intelligence -AI- expert), Diego Yubero (regulatory advisor) and Riccardo Ravagnan (meteorologist).
After the start of the program on Sunday with iQFOiL, the 49er and the 49er FX, the ILCA 7 and 6 will start their competition on Thursday, August 1st and the 470 on Friday the 2nd, while on Saturday the 3rd the Nacra 17 and Formula Kite will be the last to start its competition, on Sunday 4th, and extend it to the finals on Thursday, August 8th after twelve days of racing in total.
