Hut owner Gotthard Kaiser is in good spirits again after the huge rockfall in Neukirchen in Salzburg. The debris just missed the Stockeralm.
“There was a crash and then the dust came out anyway,” says Hüttenwirt Kaiser about the dramatic rockfall on Wednesday evening in the Untersulzbachtal in Neukirchen am Großvenediger. The huge rock masses narrowly missed the Stockeralm. The refuge and its visitors remained unharmed. The Neukirchen fire brigade reports that the alpine pasture and its guests were simply “covered in dust.”
Hüttenwirt Kaiser is already cheerful again on Thursday morning in an interview with the “Krone”: “Today everything is white with dust. But I have already blown most of it away. The tables have been cleared and the first guests have already returned. The rock is right at the top of the rock. Everything went well.”
The state geologist will investigate the falling rocks
The fire department was alerted by the mayor of Neukirchen after the local boss received a call about the falling rocks. State geologist Gerald Valentin is expected to investigate the exact background of the rockfall during a local inspection.
One thing is certain: it was not the first rockfall in the Stockeralm area. Eight years ago, rocks came down from the mountain. “But then it was considerably more. But nothing happened there either,” says Kaiser.
