Burgenlanders who take in a foster child from Burgenland can be employed by the state. This model is unique in Austria. Sonja Michalitsch from Wulkaprodersdorf uses it.
When Sonja Michalitsch (41) and her husband Christoph (42) got married six years ago, it was clear to the office worker and police officer from Wulkaprodersdorf that they absolutely wanted to have children together. Both grew up in families with many children, he already had a son from a previous relationship. It was all the more incomprehensible to relatives and acquaintances that the couple had no offspring. “We were asked over and over again, ‘When is it time?’ or “Do you want your house to remain empty forever?” At a certain point you get tired of those comments,” says Sonja Michalitsch.
