LaLiga denounces PSG and City for breaking the rules of financial ‘fair play’

Date:

The body chaired by Tebas responds to its threats to sue these ‘state clubs’ before UEFA and announces it will also take additional legal action against the EU, France and Switzerland

LaLiga filed a complaint this week with UEFA against PSG, which joins the complaint already made against Manchester City in April, as it understands that these clubs are constantly breaking current financial fair play rules.

The employers of Spanish professional clubs believe that these practices are changing the ecosystem and sustainability of football, harming all European clubs and leagues, and only serve to artificially inflate the market, with money not generated in football itself.

The body chaired by Javier Tebas understands that the illegal financing of these clubs is carried out, either through direct cash injections or through sponsorships and other contracts that are not in line with market conditions or make no economic sense.

The complaints against Manchester City before UEFA were settled a few months ago and in recent days they have filed the complaint corresponding to PSG, although LaLiga does not rule out that extensions of any of these complaints will be filed in the coming days to the contributions of new data.

In addition, Tebas has contracted law firms in France and Switzerland, including the French law firm Juan Branco, with the aim of taking administrative and judicial action as quickly as possible with the competent French authorities and with the European Union.

In Switzerland, LaLiga is studying different representation options due to potential conflicts of interest of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the Qatari tycoon who presides over PSG, derived from his various roles in the Paris club, UEFA, ECA and BeIN Sports.

It is not the first time that LaLiga has denounced these anti-competitive practices for UEFA. The Spanish organization has always led the defense of economic control. In 2017 and 2018, he filed a complaint with UEFA against PSG and Manchester City for violating financial fair play, leading to sanctions by UEFA against both ‘state clubs’, although they were later annulled due to strange decisions by CAS .

LaLiga’s complaints, as well as statements made by the association of Spanish clubs in recent times in this regard, were made on the basis of data and after a detailed monitoring and analysis of the clubs’ audited accounts.
