Angela Carini’s plant controversy in his match on Thursday against Imane Khelif was far from over.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) will award the Italian the organization’s cash prize as if he were an Olympic championaccording to its top leader, Umar Kremlev.
Carini refused to continue the fight with Khelif, from the round of 16 of the Games, after receiving a heavy blowconsidering that he is in no position to continue in one of the most controversial moments of Paris 2024.
Even the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, met on Friday with the president of the IOC, Thomas Bach, with whom he spoke, among other issues, the case of the Algerian woman, who has a high level of testosterone.
“I can’t see her tears. I’m not indifferent to these kinds of situations and I assure you that we will protect every boxer. I don’t understand why they kill women’s boxing. “Only athletes who meet the requirements should compete in the ring for the sake of safety,” Kremlev said.
The leader said the IBA will also support Uzbek Sitora Turdibekova, who lost unanimously to Taiwanese Lin Yu-ting, who was also deemed ineligible by the IBA in 2023.
The IOC and Paris 2024 published a statement last Friday in which they indicated that “all athletes participating in the boxing tournament” of the Games “follow the eligibility and registration rules of the competition, as well as all applicable medical standards established by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit (PBU).”
In May, the IBA decided to award cash prizes to all Paris 2024 Olympic champions and medalists. The champions will receive 100,000 dollars, of which 50,000 will go to the athletes, 25,000 to the Federation and another 25,000 to their coach.
For a silver, 50,000 dollars in prizes will be awarded, of which the boxer will receive 25,000 and the remaining 25,000 dollars will be distributed equally between the coach and the National Federation; while the amount for the bronze is 25,000, 12,500 for the boxer and the rest to be distributed between the coach and his federation.
Those who lose in the quarterfinals and finish fifth will receive $10,000 from IBA, bringing the total amount in this section to $3.1 million.
