Date:

The Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu received this Friday at Bucharest the bronze medal in the ground of Olympic Games in Pariswhich was first granted to the American Jordan Chiles.

The final was held on August 5 and, five days later, Barbosu won the bronze after an appeal presented by the Romanian team before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) against the revision of Chile’s note.

Barbosu achieved the third best score in the floor final (13.700), and therefore the bronze medal, behind the Brazilian Rebecca Andrade (14,166) and the American Simone Biles (14,133).

But Chiles, the other American finalist, filed a complaint for his original score of 13.666, which put him in fifth position. The judges followed his request and gave him a 13.766, which improved him two places. Barbosu was left without a podium.

The Romanian team appealed to CAS considering that Chile’s claim was presented outside the one minute period allowed by the regulations of International Federation (FIG)specifically, in one minute and four seconds.

Barbosu celebrates his bronze as Chiles new mark appears on the scoreboards.

Seeing him, the Romanian woman dropped the flag from her hands and began to cry although in the end, and after several days of controversy, the bronze went to her.

Accepting his medal from the Paris 2024 spotlight, Barbosu said he felt “very happy and grateful” while expressing his sadness at the whole mess. “We gymnasts really did nothing wrong,” commented the 18-year-old Romanian girl.

Earlier in the day, Jordan Chiles considered the withdrawal of his medal “unfair” and expressed his deep sadness. The American Gymnastics Federation He promised to “explore all possible avenues and appeal processes” for the gymnast to regain her medal.
