On a day marked by a very annoying wind on center court, Rublev (6th) tried to string together two consecutive victories against Sinner, but the world number 1 found solutions and thus avoided another loss against the Russian, who won last week in the quarterfinals of Masters 1,000 from Canada argued in Montreal6-3, 1-6 and 6-2.
“Today required a lot of mental strength,” said Sinner, who committed 44 unforced errors (47 Rublev), many of them also conditioned by the wind. Jannik, of course, hit 31 winners to just 13 for the Russian.
“The conditions were very difficult, it was very windy. In the first set he started well and I didn’t play my best tennis, but in the second set I felt I had options. I waited for my chance and I very happy to reach the semi-finals,” added the Italian.
Sinner, current champion of Australian Openis looking for his third Masters 1,000 title after Canada’2023 and Miami’2024 and his first trophy since winning in June on the grass of Halle. This season he has four titles (Australia, Rotterdam, Miami, Halle), 46 wins and only five losses.
