Spanish golf makes history with first US Amateur victory

Josele Ballester made history by winning the 124th United States Amateur Championshipby defeating the American Noah Kent in the final by two holes at the Nazeltine National in Chaska (Minnesota).


The Spaniard, who defeated American Bobby Massa 3 and 1 in the quarterfinals and also Spaniard Luis Masaveu 3 and 2 in the semifinals, dominated the final through four holes to win two and became the first Spaniard to achieve this title.

Son of Olympic athletes like José Luis Ballester and Sonia Barrio, he was European amateur champion last yearthus getting invitations to next year’s Majors (Masters and US Open) as long as he maintains his ‘amateur’ status.
