Shapovalov continues ‘Nadal’ curse

Date:

the canadian Denis Shapovalov added on Wednesday his fifth straight loss, all since he beat Rafa Nadal in Romeagainst American Tommy Paul in the first round of the Queen’s (6-4, 2-6 and 6-4).

Paul, who has not won a match since the beginning of May, won a match that had to be played in two days, due to lack of light he was forced to suspend the match on Tuesday before the third set began.

The break in the final set was enough for the American to give Shapovalov his fifth straight loss.all since he beat crippled Nadal in the round of 16 of the Masters 1,000 in Rome.

The Canadian accumulated two setbacks on the grass tour, with defeats to Stuttgart and Queen’s, which was a worrying sign before Wimbledon, where last year he reached the semifinals where he lost to, ultimately, the champion Novak Djokovic.

Paul, number 35 in the ATP, will face Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the second roundin the first clash of the two since the Swiss won the Masters 1,000 at Paris-Bercy in 2020.
