Black day for Spanish tennis at the US Open

This Monday the preliminary stage of the US Open 2024 began in New York, and it did not go in the best way for Spanish tennis. In fact, it was arguably a disastrous day, with six defeats in seven games.

In the men’s box, Dani Rincón was unable to defeat Lithuanian Vilius Gaubas 6-3, 6-2, while Alejandro Moro Cañas succumbed to the push of Australian Li Tu. (6-4, 6-4) and Javier Barranco lost to Moldovan Radu Albot (6-1, 5-7, 6-4).

As for the feminine, Leyre Romero fell to American Alicia Parks 6-3, 6-4while Aliona Bolsova lost to German Ella Seidel (1-6, 7-6, 6-4) and Guiomar Maristany lost to British Sonay Kartal 6-3, 6-3.

The only victory of the day came from Marina Bassols, who defeated Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa 6-4, 6-0. and the pass to the final round will be played this Wednesday against the American Mary Stoiana.

This Tuesday the other four Spaniards present in this preview of the New York Grand Slam will enter the fray. Rebeka Masarova will face British Francesca Jones, Nuria Párrizas will face Russian Julia Avdeeva and Oriol Roca will face Serbian Hamad Medjedovic.
